Final Fantasy 16, the highly anticipated game, will be exclusively launching on the PlayStation 5. However, fans are wondering if it will eventually release on PC. While previous titles in the Final Fantasy franchise have been released on various platforms, most of them made their way to PC through re-releases. Final Fantasy 16 PC Release Explained
The official Japanese PlayStation Blog recently provided some clarity on the matter. Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the game will not release on PC until six months after its initial launch. This time exclusivity agreement with PlayStation 5 means that there are no immediate plans for other platform releases. Furthermore, there is no confirmation of the game coming to any Xbox platforms.
Yoshida assured fans that a PC version of Final Fantasy 16 will eventually be released, but due to the exclusivity agreement, it cannot be launched simultaneously on platforms other than PlayStation. Many PC players were hoping to enjoy the game right from its launch, but unfortunately, they will have to wait until a later date.
As for the expected release of Final Fantasy 16 on PC, it won’t be available any sooner than six months after the game’s launch. With the game set to release in late June, the earliest possible release window for the PC version would be in late December. However, it is likely that the PC version won’t be ready within six months after the initial launch.
Drawing a parallel to the release pattern of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which also had a time exclusivity agreement with PlayStation, it took approximately a year and eight months for it to be released on PC. Remake was initially available only on PlayStation 4 in April 2020, followed by a PlayStation 5 version a year later. The PC version was released on the Epic Games Store on December 16, 2021. Applying a similar timeline to Final Fantasy 16, it’s possible that we may not see a PC port until December 2024, or even as late as 2025.
