The next Call of Duty game has recently been revealed by Activision, with Modern Warfare 3 marking the continuation of a beloved rebooted saga. But with the recent success of MW2’s extraction mode, DMZ, many are wondering whether the free-to-play mode will continue. Here’s everything you need to know about if DMZ is going to be in MW3.
Modern Warfare DMZ Explained
While traditional Call of Duty titles offer engaging campaigns and various multiplayer options, DMZ represents an extension of Warzone’s battle royale mode. In DMZ, the objective is to accumulate as much loot as possible within the Exclusion Zone. Players commence with limited inventory space, which can be expanded by completing Faction missions. Throughout the DMZ experience, participants must confront both other players and AI-controlled soldiers.
Is There a DMZ Mode in MW3? Answered
As of right now, DMZ in MW3 is unconfirmed. There has been no official mention of a DMZ mode being part of MW3 at its launch. However, it has been clarified that numerous features from Warzone 2, including weapon camos and attachments, will carry over into the new title. Notably, some weapons that are exclusive to DMZ matches in Warzone 2 have left fans wondering about their fate.
Despite DMZ’s popularity, concerns have arisen regarding its vulnerability to exploitation. Experienced players who have ventured into this mode multiple times have become adept at locating valuable loot, often leading to camping strategies to deter others. Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to devise a solution to address this issue, aside from mandating the completion of Faction missions to unlock specific loot.
What we do know is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will introduce a brand-new Zombies mode intertwined with the Dark Aether storyline. This revamped Zombies experience will incorporate elements from DMZ, including a players-versus-environment (PvE) extraction component. Unlike previous iterations, MW3’s Zombie mode will offer an open-world adventure, promising a fresh take on this fan-favorite mode.
Another confirmed feature relevant to the transition between MW2 and MW3 is that the weapons players have unlocked and acquired will carry over. Based on that alone, we’re going to put our money on the fact that DMZ will indeed also continue for the upcoming new game.
