In The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, as you venture deeper into the mines and uncover new regions, stronger tools become a necessity for your progress. The Steel Hammer is one such tool you’ll need, particularly when you reach the Shortcut to the Mines. Here, we’ll walk you through how to get the Steel Hammer and its importance in your journey.
How to Unlock the Steel Hammer Recipe
As you explore new areas of Moria, you’ll encounter various statues and obstacles that require a Steel Hammer to restore and advance. It symbolizes your progression within the game and grants you the ability to perform tasks that were previously unavailable.
To unlock the Steel Hammer recipe, you need to follow these steps:
- Progress in the Main Quest: As you journey through the main questline, you’ll eventually reach the Shortcut to the Mines. It’s here that you’ll realize the necessity of a Steel Hammer.
- Discover the Great Forge: In your quest to reach the mines, you’ll come across the Great Forge, a significant location within Moria.
- Ignite the Great Forge: Before unlocking the Steel Hammer recipe, you must ignite the Great Forge. Igniting the forge involves collecting missing pieces scattered throughout the area and placing them within the forge to restore its functionality.
- Craft Steel Ingots: Once you’ve successfully ignited the Great Forge, you gain access to the recipe for the Steel Hammer. To craft the Steel Hammer, you’ll need Steel Ingots. Each Steel Ingot can be crafted using the following materials:
- 3x Iron Ore
- 3x Coal
- 45 seconds of smelting
Crafting the Steel Hammer
Crafting the Steel Hammer is obviously the final piece of the puzzle. To do so, make sure you have the following resources:
- 2x Steel Ingot
- 4x Elven Wood
- 1x Hide
Here’s a breakdown of how to obtain these materials if you’ve somehow forgotten:
- Steel Ingots: After crafting your first Steel Ingot at the Great Furnace of Narvi, you can craft them at your own furnace in your base. Make sure to have six Iron Ore and six Coal on hand to produce two Steel Ingots.
- Elven Wood: Elven Wood can be found in areas where Bears and Stags are typically located. Alternatively, you can obtain it by chopping down smaller trees with an axe, which will yield both Wood Scraps and Elven Wood.
- Hide: To acquire Hide, you’ll need to defeat larger enemies. Stags are a suitable choice as they drop two Hide when defeated and are relatively easier to handle. Avoid Wolves, as they only drop Hide Scraps.
So, with the Steel Hammer, you will be able to repair the statues and get more recipes. Not to mention, continue your journey deeper into the mines of Moria with confidence. For more on the game, check out our beginner tips and tricks.
