Lift off!

In a stellar debut, strong Starfield sales have seen it soar to the top of the European gaming charts during its launch week. According to data from GSD, the Xbox and PC game, developed by Bethesda Game Studios, achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the fastest-selling new intellectual property (IP) of the year and the fifth fastest-selling game overall.

Starfield Is the Fifth Biggest European Game Launch of 2023

Starfield not only outperformed its competitors but also surpassed the initial launch sales of highly anticipated titles such as Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 4. However, it fell just short of dethroning the reigning champions of the gaming world, with Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor retaining their positions ahead of Bethesda’s spacefaring adventure.

It’s worth noting that the data does not provide a direct apples-to-apples comparison due to some unique factors surrounding Starfield’s release. The game technically had a head start, as it was available a week earlier for those who purchased the premium edition, granting it a few extra days of sales. Additionally, “Starfield” was included in the Xbox Game Pass on day one, and this data is not accounted for in the GSD statistics.

Despite these nuances, strong Starfield sales mean it comfortably stands as the biggest Xbox launch this generation across Europe, edging out Forza Horizon 5 in an impressive display of its popularity.

In other gaming news, two older titles, Titanfall 2 and Need for Speed: Heat, made their triumphant return to the Top Ten due to attractive digital deals. Titanfall 2, developed by Respawn Entertainment, received a boost from bug fixes implemented by the developer over the past week, further enhancing the player experience.

Starfield has undoubtedly made its mark as a juggernaut in the gaming world, with its interstellar adventure captivating players across Europe. As the year progresses, it remains to be seen whether this celestial title can maintain its momentum and continue to reach for the stars in the gaming charts.
