Time to end him.

The moment of reckoning has arrived. After everything Henry has been through, he finally gets his shot at Istvan Toth, one of his biggest enemies. But taking him down is easier said than done. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’ll have multiple ways to deal with him, and if you choose the honorable route, you’re in for one of the toughest duels in the game. To help you even the odds, here’s everything you need to know about beating Istvan Toth.

How to Defeat Istvan Toth in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The Dishonorable Route

If you don’t feel like crossing swords with Istvan Toth, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers a way out. Without spoiling too much, there’s an alternative method that skips the duel entirely and leads to a cinematic resolution. It’s the easier option, and if you think Toth deserves an underhanded fate, this is the way to go.

During The Storm quest, you’ll also have the chance to talk to him. However, in my playthrough, no dialogue option led to a peaceful resolution—likely because my stats weren’t high enough. Regardless of what I picked, the conversation always ended in a fight.

If you’re ready for a real challenge, though, here’s how to defeat Istvan Toth in combat.

How to Beat Istvan Toth in a Duel

Of all the enemies you’ll face in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Istvan Toth is by far one of the toughest. Henry goes into this battle at a disadvantage—he’s not in the best condition, and worse yet, he doesn’t have his usual gear. You’ll be forced to scavenge weapons and armor from the castle, while Toth enters the fight at full strength. If you’re going the honorable route, these tips will help you survive:

  • Train Before the Fight: Before reaching the game’s first point of no return, complete the Combat Training I & II quests at the Nomad’s Camp. The second quest unlocks the Masterstrike technique, which makes countering Istvan’s attacks much easier.
  • Steal Some Gear: As you sneak through the castle, take out as many guards as possible and loot their equipment. A shield and helmet will make a huge difference in the duel.
  • Use Alchemy to Your Advantage: There’s an alchemist station in the castle with a few potions lying around. Grab them and drink them before the fight. They’re not the best, but any boost helps.

Even with these preparations, expect to retry the fight a few times—Istvan Toth can end you in a single well-placed hit. But if you manage to defeat him, you’ll claim one of the most anticipated rewards in the Kingdom Come series. And yes, if it wasn’t obvious, I’m talking about the sword.
