It might not be a weapon, but it’s one of the most important pieces of utility in the game. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to equip and use SID in Avatar Frontiers of Pandora.
SID, or Systems Interrogation Device, is a multifaceted gadget that you will acquire early in your adventure. Designed by Alexander Tremayne, a human scientist and Na’vi sympathizer, SID becomes indispensable for tackling various challenges in the game. Its functions range from sabotaging enemy devices to repairing electronic machines blocking your path.
How to Equip & Use SID in Avatar Frontiers of Pandora
SID is introduced during the main quest “Welcome to the Resistance”, following the healing of So’lek. You need not worry about accidentally missing it or having to search for it in Pandora’s vast open world.
Equipping SID is a straightforward process. If you are using an Xbox Series X/S, press LB + Y. PlayStation 5 users should hit R1 + Triangle, while PC gamers can press the number 5 on their keyboard. Upon activation, SID will replace any weapon you were holding and display a green reticle at the screen’s center.
How to Use SID?
Typically, you should use SID when the tool’s icon at the screen’s bottom glows, indicating that an item in your vicinity can interact with SID. This can happen around high-tech screens, RDA mechs, turrets at RDA stations, and more.
Once equipped, aim SID at any machine you wish to hack. If the machine can be hacked, a circle with a wrench inside will appear, and the circuits connecting it to another source will start glowing.
The hacking process involves several steps:
- Aim the SID at the node with the wrench icon on your target.
- Lightly press RT (Xbox)/R2 (PS5)/left-click+E or Q (PC) until the two circles overlap.
- Once the circles overlap, release every button.
- Follow the glowing wires to the next part and repeat the previous steps.
- Once you reach the faulty node, the wrench icon will be replaced by a circuit web icon.
- Repeat steps 1-3 and wait for the mini-game to pop up.
- Use the left stick to move and create a path from the starting point to the exit.
Successful hacking will disable or trigger the machine.
Hacking RDA Mechs
When dealing with RDA mechs, keep in mind that SID has a limited range. Therefore, you must be close enough to the device to initiate the hacking or technology interaction. Hacking during combat can be challenging, so it is advisable to use stealth tactics when attempting to use SID in this manner.
Hacking Mini-Game
Upon successful hacking, a mini-game will be initiated. This game requires you to move the cursor across white lines to an endpoint, represented by a green dot in a white circle. The difficulty level varies, with some requiring you to unlock locks or avoid zigzag lines, which can reset the game.
Other Uses of SID
Aside from hacking, SID can also be used to trace wiring to locate the exact area that needs fixing — a common task when activating Research Stations — such as Research Station A in the Feral Hunter quest.
Also, pairing SID with the Ancestral Skill Eject, which enables a melee attack and forcefully ejects a pilot, creates a lethal stealth combo in the game. When overwhelmed by enemies, SID can be your savior if used to its strengths.
