Final Fantasy 16 is off to a solid commercial start, publisher Square Enix has announced. The game’s sales have now exceeded 3 million, which is fairly strong considering it’s only available on Sony’s PS5 console.
Over 3 Million Final Fantasy 16 Sales
These figures account for both physical and digital sales exclusively on the PlayStation 5 platform. Although physical sales in the UK fell by approximately 74% compared to its predecessor, Final Fantasy 15, Final Fantasy 16 managed to secure the top spot in overall sales during its launch week.
Again, as mentioned earlier, it’s important to note that these commendable sales numbers should be considered in light of the fact that Final Fantasy 16 is currently available exclusively on the PS5.
By comparison, when Final Fantasy 7 Remake debuted in April 2020 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, it sold 3.5 million copies within three days. However, this achievement was aided by a significantly larger install base of consoles, which the PS5 has yet to amass. Additionally, Final Fantasy 15, which was released in November 2016 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, sold an impressive 5 million units on its first day, making it the fastest-selling game in the history of the franchise.
While it is highly likely that Square Enix is actively working on a PC version of Final Fantasy 16, producer Naoki Yoshida has stated that its release is not imminent. Fans eagerly awaiting the opportunity to play the game on PC will need to exercise patience as they await further updates.
