In a recent Investor Day livestream event, CD Projekt announced impressive sales figures for its Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty.

According to CD Projekt executives, Phantom Liberty, the latest expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, has achieved staggering sales success since its launch, with an impressive 3 million units sold within its first week, ending on October 3. This impressive sales figure has been met with praise from the gaming community, and CD Projekt is celebrating this achievement as a “phenomenal” and “great result.”

To put this achievement into context, CD Projekt estimates that approximately 20 million gamers have Cyberpunk 2077 on PC and current-gen consoles, which means that 15% of the player base opted to purchase the expansion in its first week. The studio’s executives were particularly pleased with this level of engagement.

Regionally, North America led the pack in terms of Phantom Liberty expansion sales, closely followed by Europe. This regional breakdown highlights the global appeal of the game and its expansions.

When considering sales by platform, it’s evident that the PC platform secured the majority of sales, accounting for 68% of purchases. The PlayStation 5 (PS5) followed closely behind with 20% of sales, while the Xbox Series X|S platforms trailed with 13%.

CD Projekt anticipates that both the game and its expansion will continue to perform well in the market, indicating a strong future ahead for the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise.

Behind the scenes, CD Projekt RED allocated significant resources to the development of the Phantom Liberty expansion. At its peak, the expansion was under the guidance of 360 developers, with a total of 3,600 individuals contributing in some capacity throughout the entire development cycle.

In terms of financial investment, Phantom Liberty incurred costs of 275 million PLN (approximately $63 million) for development and an additional 95 million PLN (around $22 million) for marketing. It’s important to note that these figures are estimates, as some costs are still being calculated. When considering the cumulative expenses, including the main game and expansion, the total budget for the Cyberpunk 2077 project and its expansions amounts to a significant 453 million PLN or approximately $104 million.

Moreover, CD Projekt celebrated another significant milestone, revealing that the combined sales of the Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchises have now exceeded 100 million copies.
