Time to clean house of all your old files if you’re planning on playing Larian Studios’ anticipated upcoming RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3. The D&D-inspired game promises a huge amount of replayability thanks to an open-ended design and myriad of different classes. But that comes at a cost if the Baldur’s Gate 3 file size is anything to go by.
Baldur’s Gate 3 File Size Is Huge
Indeed, players should prepare for its substantial file size, at least for the PC version. Currently weighing in at a staggering 122GB, it is uncertain if the PS5 version will be any smaller, as console games tend to be comparable in size.
Although the PS5 file size is yet to be confirmed, it might be wise for players to clear some space on their console’s SSD in anticipation of the game’s release. The PC version is set to launch in just a few days, while PS5 players will have to wait until September 6th for their turn.
Of course, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out for some time in Early Access. Still, if you’ve been playing it busily over the past year or so it’s worth noting that your saves won’t carry over. On the surface, that’s a bit of a shame, but Larian has actually said that “so much has changed that it’s really worth it to start afresh.”
As a reminder, the game’s Xbox version has been delayed; perhaps, until as late as 2024. The news came by way of a Tweet earlier this week.
Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t the only recent game to have come with an enormous file size. Final Fantasy 16 was also massive, and it continues a long trend of beefy install sizes that are a pain to prepare for.
