Players get master and utilize iconic spells, including the infamous Unforgivable Curses. Here’s how to get Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy, and what consequences using this most notorious of spells has.
Getting the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy
In Hogwarts Legacy, learning the Unforgivable Curses, including Avada Kedavra, is part of the game’s overarching storyline. Players must progress through a series of quests linked to a character named Sebastian Sallow. These take you through various regions of the game, unveiling a narrative that ultimately leads to the opportunity to learn these forbidden spells.
The Path to Avada Kedavra
Actually getting Avada Kedavra means completing a specific sequence of quests within Sebastian Sallow’s questline. Specifically, “In The Shadow Of The Relic.” This quest becomes accessible only once you’ve reached level 28 and finished all preceding quests in Sebastian’s storyline, including “In The Shadow Of The Mountain” and “In the Shadow Of Hope.”
The quest “In The Shadow Of The Relic” takes players into a catacomb filled with Inferi. Here, you’ll have to confront Sebastian and another character in a tense battle. After a series of events that culminate in Sebastian casting Avada Kedavra on an opponent, players are finally given the option to learn Acada Kedavra — but exactly when depends on making the correct dialog choice.
If you choose to align with Sebastian’s actions during the quest “In The Shadow Of The Relic,” you can learn the spell immediately. If you disagree, you can still learn Avada Kedavra by visiting Sebastian at a later point in the Undercroft, a location within the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower.
The conversation we’re referring to takes place during the Relationship Sidequest with Sebastion Sallow “In the Shadow of the Relic.” Here’s what you should answer if you want the spell immidiately:

- Reply: Everyone should know that curse.

- Reply: Yes, please.
Does Using Avada Kedavra Carry Consequence?
The inclusion of Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy remains faithful to the lore of Harry Potter. The spell is an instant eliminator of almost all adversaries. It’s important to note, however, that using this Unforgivable Curse does not carry the same moral consequences in the game as it does in the Harry Potter universe. Nothing happens if you use Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy, even in front of teachers or other characters.
So, then, using the Killing Curse is really comes down to how you want to role-play. While the game doesn’t penalize the use of Unforgivable Curses, the act of learning and using them may influence how players perceive their character’s moral compass.
All Unforgivable Curses
Apart from Avada Kedavra, Hogwarts Legacy also incorporates the other two Unforgivable Curses – Crucio and Imperio. Crucio, known as the Torture Curse, inflicts immense pain on the victim, while Imperio, the Control Curse, grants the caster the ability to manipulate the actions of the victim.
