Marvel fans and gamers alike have reason to rejoice as Insomniac Games has just dropped a bunch of new information about the upcoming release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
In a blog post over on the PSBlog, Aaron Espinoza, the Advanced Senior Community Manager at Insomniac Games, provided an in-depth look at what’s in store for players when the game hits PlayStation 5 consoles on October 20, 2023.
New Spider-Man 2 Trailer: Expanded Marvel’s New York
One of the most exciting announcements is the expansion of Marvel’s New York. The game’s world will nearly double in size, now including Queens and Brooklyn in addition to the familiar Manhattan landscape. This expanded playground will be filled with story missions, side quests, and city activities to keep players engaged for hours on end.
To enhance traversal across the larger cityscape, Insomniac has introduced the Web Wings, allowing players to combine web-swinging with these new wings for even faster and more exhilarating movement.
Dual Playable Characters
A game-changer in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the ability to switch seamlessly between two iconic Spider-Man characters: Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5, players can transition between the two heroes with ease, each with their own unique abilities and separate side stories that unfold throughout the city.
Players can lend a hand to Brooklyn Visions students as Miles Morales or respond to calls for help as Peter Parker via the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man app. You even have the freedom to choose which character to use for certain activities.
Rogue’s Gallery of Villains
The game promises an array of formidable villains, including Kraven the Hunter and the menacing Venom, both of whom will challenge our heroes and their relationships. Insomniac tantalizingly hints at other antagonists causing trouble in the city, promising an epic showdown that will require the Spider-Heroes to unite and utilize new skills, gadgets, and abilities.
New Suit Styles and Suits Galore
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 boasts an extensive wardrobe for players to customize their Spider-Hero with a total of 65 suits. Among these, the addition of “Suit Styles” will provide alternate color shaders for select suits, offering over 200 unique outfit combinations.
Digital Deluxe Edition Exclusive Suits
For those opting for the Digital Deluxe Edition, Insomniac Games has partnered with various artists from comics, games, and films to create 10 exclusive Spidey suits. Each suit features a distinct design, bringing new aesthetics and gameplay opportunities to the table.
As a reminder, Insomniac Games has confirmed that the 10 Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 skins will be exclusively available in the Digital Deluxe Edition and cannot be unlocked through regular gameplay.
“Swing” Soundtrack Collab with EARTHGANG
In a special collaboration, EARTHGANG (feat. Benji) will contribute a new music track titled “Swing” to the game. This track can be heard in the Digital Deluxe Edition trailer, with the full soundtrack, composed by award-winning composer John Paesano, available on music streaming platforms starting October 20th.
Pre-order Bonuses
Players who pre-order Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the PlayStation Store will gain early access to two new suits, the Web Grabber gadget, and 3 Skill Points.
