Sticking to its guns.

Larian Studios is determined to remain an independent studio. Speaking to Bloomberg earlier this week, Swen Vincke, the chief executive officer behind Baldur’s Gate 3 team, has made it clear that they are not interested in being acquired by big players like Microsoft or Sony.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Isn’t Joining Sony or Microsoft

Vincke went on to express that the company still has much more to offer and enjoys retaining control over important decisions. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Vincke acknowledged the flattering nature of such considerations but emphasized that he is far from being done with his work.

Vincke stated, “I’m getting older, but I’m certainly not done yet. The strength of this company is that I’m very invested in the gameplay, and I also make the ultimate decisions. We can do things in service of the games we’re making.”

The discussion about acquisition arose when Larian Studios was listed as one of the developers Microsoft considered purchasing in 2021, alongside renowned names like SEGA, Square Enix, CD Projekt RED, and FromSoftware.

As of now, none of these publishers or developers have been acquired. However, it’s worth noting that Microsoft’s massive $69 billion deal for Activision Blizzard is on the horizon, following the acquisition of Skyrim maker Bethesda in the past

For those eager to delve into Baldur’s Gate 3, the game is currently available for PC, and a PS5 version is scheduled for release on Sept. 6, 2023.
