In Monster Hunter Wilds, armor and weapons are categorized by rarity, with higher rarity gear generally offering better stats and perks. While most equipment will carry you through the main story, those pushing into High Rank will want to aim for the best of the best.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Max Armor & Weapon Rarity
The highest rarity in Monster Hunter Wilds is Rarity 8, easily recognizable by its orange color. During Low Rank, the best gear you can obtain caps out at Rarity 4. However, as you progress into High Rank, more powerful options become available, with Rarity 8 unlocking after completing the post-campaign quests in Chapter 6.
Is Rarity 8 Armor the Best?
Not necessarily. While Rarity 8 armor boasts high stats, it’s not always the best choice for every build. Some Rarity 6 and 7 sets can outperform Rarity 8 depending on your playstyle and weapon choice.
For example, the Guardian Odogaron set (Rarity 7) is often preferred by Dual Blades users over the Arkveald set (Rarity 8) due to its skill bonuses. Choosing the right armor isn’t just about raw numbers—it’s about finding the right synergy with your weapon and playstyle.
Always prioritize Beta armor sets, as they allow for more skill customization, giving you greater flexibility when building your hunter.
Are Rarity 8 Weapons Better Than Artisan Weapons?
It depends on your build. Rarity 8 weapons offer excellent base stats and high damage output, making them a solid choice for most hunters. However, Artisan weapons allow for more customization, letting you tweak their skills to better fit specific playstyles.
Some players prefer Artisan weapons for their flexibility, while others stick with Rarity 8 for their sheer power and reliability. One major advantage of Rarity 8 weapons is that they aren’t tied to RNG drops, making them easier to obtain once you’ve finished the game.
If you’re after raw power, aim for Rarity 8 armor and weapons as soon as they become available. But if you want more flexibility in your build, some lower-rarity gear—especially Artisan weapons and Beta armor sets—may suit you better.
Either way, once you reach High Rank, optimizing your gear becomes crucial, so experiment and find what works best for your preferred weapon.
